The capitalized character name above a line of dialogue, telling the reader who speaks.
The character cue is the ALL-CAPS name centered above each speech. Once a character is named in a cue, that exact name is theirs for the whole script — JANE never becomes JANE DOE later, because every cue variation reads as a new character to schedulers and casting.
Extensions in parentheses after the cue — (V.O.), (O.S.), (CONT'D) — tell the reader how the line is delivered or that a speech continues.
