White Space

The unwritten part of the page — short paragraphs and lean lines that make a script read fast.

White space is a screenplay's pacing dial. Dense block paragraphs read slow and signal an overwritten draft; short action lines with air between them pull the eye down the page at something like the film's own tempo.

The working rule: if an action paragraph runs past four lines, something in it is waiting to be cut or split.
